I often get asked by families if they should reserve a male or female puppy. Some people argue that female puppies are more nurturing and more motherly, thus making them better family companions. Australian Labradoodles do not follow the gender norms of most canines. The males and females are spayed and neutered around 5 weeks; which make them gender neutral compared to many other dog breeds. The early spay and neuter also allows the puppies to recover more quickly from surgery. When considering a puppy, I think it is more important to make temperament the most important factor. I believe that if a family gets a dog with a temperament that fits their lifestyle regardless of gender, color, and even size, they will find a “perfect match.”
